Lord Boots is one of the most innovative users of Rosebud AI Game Maker.
Consistently pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with Rosebud, he has crafted not only games, but also engines and advanced templates for the community.
Having tried almost every game dev environment and tool out there, including some “extremely obscure” ones, he stuck with Rosebud after realizing he could create a prototype in just minutes.
“My goal is always to see what’s possible, no matter where I am”, he shared with us.
Building a 2D Lighting Engine with AI
His drive to experiment kicked in the moment Lord Boots started using Rosebud.
He wanted to see just how far he could push the platform, so he built a 2D lighting engine to test the AI’s limits—and it didn’t disappoint.
“The lighting engine took me over a month. It currently has global illumination, point lights, global shadows, and a bunch of other goodies. It is very simple to implement into your own game”, he explains.
His approach has always been to challenge the tools at hand, making sure they can handle even the most complex ideas he throws at them, so every project has become a learning experience, both for him and Rosebud.
“You must keep your code ordered and easy to read for both you and the AI. Be patient, AI isn't a mind reader”, Lord Boots recommends.
From PyGame to Rosebud
Lord Boots has been a hobbyist dev since he was around 11: “I got into game dev specifically starting with PyGame. I have a heavy IT background you could say”.
He also has done a lot of mechanical work, “which gets you used to the order of operations, an important concept in game design”, he tells us.
That’s why he also created a Documentation Viewer using Rosebud. He wanted to provide a simple way to document and share project details, making it easier for others to understand and navigate complex builds.
He designed it to allow users to generate documentation directly within their projects. As Lord Boots mentions, “getting the docs as close to the expected format helps a lot,” making this a valuable resource for developers looking to streamline their workflow.
Exploring 3D: Lord Boots’ Handcrafted 3D Template
Beyond his work with 2D projects, Lord Boots has a strong interest in the 3D space as well. "I’m quite fond of my 3D projects", he shares, and his creations reflect this passion.
One standout example is his 3D Battle Cars Template, which offers a foundation for building either a 3D battle car game or a standard car game, depending on the features you choose to include.
What’s particularly impressive is that all the assets were handcrafted by Lord Boots himself, giving developers the freedom to use and distribute them as they wish.
Though still a work in progress, the template is a valuable starting point for anyone looking to dive into 3D game development. And with upcoming updates to Rosebud AI Game Maker, creating 3D projects will soon become even easier and faster.
